Alex Connelly (Immutable Executive) Is A Fan Of AI

AI (Artificial Intelligence) has been a hot topic over the last few weeks, with a growing movement against it brewing. We've seen some artists and writers be critical of the tech. Some art-centric subreddits have even gone as far as banning subscribers whose artwork is similar to ones produced by generative AI tools.

However, the Web3 space seems more excited about AI than anyone else. Alex Connelly, CTO of Immutable, recently spoke with CoinTelegraph with this to say on the subject.

OpenAI's software will allow new possibilities for Web3 games, letting developers create better art, more challenging encounters and superior narration, leading to a more immersive and rich experience for players.

What areas are Immutable experimenting with the tech?

  • AI Generative Art - This is one area the team at Immutable is exploring the most. With multiple sizes and variations of the same images needed for games, they are exploring how AI can speed up the production of these variations. That means the artists can focus on creating original art.

  • Storytelling - It seems Immutable is in the early stages of exploring creating an AI narrator who can tell "the story" with ChaGPT. Alex did mention that it has not been entirely successful, and the team is hopeful but not executing this in any of their games right now.

  • AI Adjusted By Player Skill - It would seem they are looking into ways that an AI could dynamically adjust to a player's skill level, creating an experience that is challenging for the player but not too much.

I think that's a really important thing for making sure that you don't have something that's so easy that no one plays against it or so hard that it's just not fun to play against, finding that nice curve and making that player customized. That's an awesome use of this technology,

Web3 And Gaming In CES 2023

CES 2023, the Consumer Electronic Show, was back in full stride this year with its first fully recovered live conference. A lot of consumer tech was showcased by the most prominent players and up-and-comers. But here we are focused on Web3 and gaming, so we sieved the pile of tech to bring you what was exciting for Web3 and gaming.

1/ VR/AR headsets

HTC unveiled the HTC Vive XR Elite as an all-in-one VR headset that competes with the Meta Quest 2.

TCL stormed into the scene unveiling three devices. The NXTWear S glasses that gives you a virtual display for your smartphone, the RayNeoX2 AR glasses that promises a fully featured AR experience, and the lightweight VR headset NXTWear V.

Razer revealed plans to make two accessories for the Meta Quest 2. One is a head strap designed to offer improved comfort and weight distribution. The other is a facial interface said to be more gentle on sensitive skin and effective at blocking out external light.

Lumus, an Israeli AR company, showed off a discreet AR glasses (bye-bye Google glasses look) that has their new optical engine. The optical engine allows them to shrink their waveguide package to fit the corner of the glasses lens. Resulting in this beauty.

2/ Virtual production

Sony came in big with their virtual production tech that included a giant LED. It displays a photorealistic CG space, making it look like you are filming in the actual location.

3/ Sony building a metaverse with Manchester City

If you aren't into football (soccer for the Americans), Manchester City is a football club that plays in the Premier League in England.

Sony is working with them to build a proof-of-concept virtual world where fans can explore the facilities with their avatars and watch virtual recreations of big highlights. Hopefully, there is more to this world they building or it might end up being a desert.

4/ OLED gaming monitors

Many companies came in with OLED gaming monitors with features like 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03 milliseconds response time, and adjustable stands. Typically these things are expensive at $1,000+ but with more players piling in, we could see the price start go down.
