Magic Eden And Polygon Launchpad Brings Shatterpoint
Only a month ago, Magic Eden and Polygon came together to accelerate blockchain game development. And you would think that it takes 9 months to bring the first baby.
Nope.
The partnership is already bearing fruit, with its first game coming out of the launchpad called Shatterpoint.
What is Shatterpoint?
Shatterpoint is a free-to-play, action role-playing multiplayer mobile game developed by BlockGames and Estoty, a leading European game studio with over 50 million users monthly and over 1.5 billion cumulative downloads. Now that’s clout!
They plan to launch their closed alpha in Jan 2023 and you can see the trailer in the tweet.

Our take
Always good seeing new games come to the space. As they say, the more, the merrier. Definitely excited to see what other games come out of the launchpad.
Alex Connolly On Web3 Gaming
Cryptonews Podcast had a chat with Alex Connolly about Web3 gaming. We listened, so you don't have to.
Who Is Alex Connolly?
A New Zealander.
Wrote a script for RuneScape to get pricing data from the grand exchange at age 9.
Graduated high school as one of the best students in Australia.
Dropped out of a combined Computer Science & Law degree at the University of Sydney.
CTO at Immutable to develop infrastructure for Web3 games.
Sports lover, rugby, and football (the real one).
So what did he have to say?
1/ Games in Web3 need to cross the threshold of streamability
Many of the current games are not at the point that people would be happy to stream the gameplay continuously, mentioning Illuvium as a game that could change that for the space.
2/ What's stopping people from building good Web3 games
Infrastructure that abstracts away some of the difficult steps of creating on Web3 so game developers can do what they love to do best - developing games.
Another is creating a smooth user experience is challenging when you map out the whole way to build an ecosystem. This comes to the forefront, especially when it comes down to wallets and payments. At this time, no wallet can be used across games like you would with Steam.
3/ What is needed to bring in more gamers
Sustainable game design and economies. Play-to-earn games showed that gameplay just to earn leads to extraction economies that are not sustainable. What players want is an escape, a place to have fun and interact with friends.
He does think that having a way to reward early players is valuable as they help bootstrap the network. This can be done by replacing some of what would go to paid ads to reward these players. Developers would need to find the right balance between giving rewards to players to bootstrap the network and using paid ads to acquire players.
Alex had some hot takes during the conversation as well.
On crypto Twitter
I think one thing that I'll definitely say is that too much crypto Twitter is not a good thing. Right? I think people should spend a lot of time focusing on things that are interesting. There are a lot of things that do not matter. And spending time, actually building and making things, is usually much more important.
On motivation
I think most people let life happen to them a little bit too much. I think there are lots of challenges in being intentional and that makes life more challenging. But even a little bit more of it will make a massive difference in being able to enjoy life a little bit more. So I strongly recommend that as well.
